Crystal & Sheerframe H.E.D. wins Innovation award - 30 October 2008
The Sheerframe HED (Homogenous Energy Dynamics) window system from L.B. Plastics has won a top industry award for innovation.
The system, which has been designed to help the building industry meet high levels within the Code for Sustainable Homes and the Zero Carbon Homes challenge, has been chosen for the energy and carbon saving category of the Construction Products Association’s (CPA) 2008 edition of Construction Products Innovation and Achievement (CPIA).
The CPA represents the UK’s manufacturers and suppliers of all types of construction products in all materials and acts as the voice of the construction products sector. The awards showcase the industry’s leading new product innovations, which are making an impact within the construction industry.
Mike Butterick, Head of Marketing at L.B. Plastics, said: “We are delighted to have won this prestigious award. It is a fantastic recognition of the innovative and environmentally friendly Sheerframe HED system. Manufactured here in the UK, the Sheerframe HED system creates stronger, lighter and significantly more thermally efficient windows, offering window makers, specifiers and housebuilders a simple and cost effective route to achieving window U-values down to just 0.8W/m2K in their drive towards viable zero carbon homes. Such a low U-value is equivalent to the rating required for dwellings rated at levels 5 and 6 in the Code for Sustainable Homes.
“Until now, performance at this level could only be achieved by very specialist and fantastically expensive, often unsuitable windows with long delivery lead times. The Sheerframe HED system is designed specifically for the mainstream UK housebuilding industry and is available now.”
Uniquely, the high level of thermal performance of the Sheerframe HED system is achieved with a conventionally styled outward open casement window featuring slim sightlines and is available in white, woodgrain or any RAL colour.
Commenting on the achievement, Simon Storer, Communications and External Affairs Director, for the Construction Products Association said: “CPIA shows how the construction products industry is continuously developing and creating innovative products and processes which make a significant impact to all aspects of construction. Sheerframe HED has demonstrated real innovation in helping the industry meet the challenges of the Code for Sustainable Homes by delivering a step-change in energy performance of mainstream window solutions.”
