Luxury Housebuilders Provide More Than A Bit On The Side - 14 January 2004
Luxury housebuilders Countryside Properties were looking for more than a bit on the side when they chose large Sheerframe Lean-to conservatories for their development in Caxton Place, Cheshire.
Sixteen of the 27, four bedroom, detached luxury family houses and 18, two bedroom, apartments in the exclusive development, were installed with Sheerframe System 6000 conservatories by local company Crystal UPVC Window & Door Systems. All of the properties were installed with Sheerframe side hung casement windows and Sheerframe doors.
Each conservatory has a 2.5m projection, making the correct choice of material essential for safety and stability. David Thomas, contracts manager, at Crystal UPVC Window & Door Systems, commented, “Due to the size of the structures, it was important that the system was suitably strong, an aluminium frame would have sagged over time and become dangerous. Working with L.B. Plastics on the technical specification for the load bearing requirements, a reinforced steel frame with PVC cladding was specified for the job.”
While strength was an essential quality in the specification of a system, Countryside Properties also required a system that would perform in terms of thermal efficiency and aesthetics. All Sheerframe conservatories feature a slotted adjustable ventilator system in the Eaves Beam, twin walled rafters and hip-bars, and moulded crown covers, ensuring good ventilation in the summer and heat retention in the winter.
Simon Cordingley, managing buyer, at Countryside Properties, said, “The Sheerframe system is particularly good in terms of the way it looks compared to other PVC systems. Our properties are often situated in open countryside and it is important to offer buyers homes that blend in well with the surroundings. This has been on of our fastest selling developments, so we must have got it right!”
The Sheerframe conservatory system is totally flexible in terms of design and style, and is fully supported by an experienced technical specifications team at L.B. Plastics. The range includes Low-pitch, Lean-to, Victorian, Edwardian Gable and Hip, along with a box-gutter and valley system to enable P and T shaped combinations to be constructed. In addition to white, the full range is available in mahogany and Light Oak finishes.
